I got a letter in the mail from our credit card company saying that they increased our credit limit. This is a good thing because when we first applied for it we were paying it off every other week because the limit was so low. However, reading the letter and not just our new credit limit shocked me… especially since we just had General Conference and one of the main messages was debt and living modestly.
Here are some excerpts from the letter…
“You now have greater flexibility to take advantage of new opportunities when they arise, make purchases you may have been putting off, or pay off other credit card balances that may have built up.”
“You’re credit increase is already in place. You don’t have to do anything to get it.”
“Your card is always welcome.”
“We hope you enjoy the increased purchase power now in your hands.”
Really? Could they be slimier? I feel so bad for the people who really do see this as an opportunity to buy more expensive stuff they couldn’t earlier “afford”. A higher credit limit isn’t always a bad thing but it is for people who don’t have the money to pay it off on time and the majority of people fall into that category these days.
