Product Advice

Jane will soon be needing a high chair and the next stage in car seats. I have no idea which to buy because there are so many different kinds and costs so I'm asking you...

What high chairs do you have and what do you like/dislike about them?

What car seat did you use after your child exceeded 20 lbs? What do you like and dislike about it? We don't have a car so the one we buy would need to be able to go into different cars quickly.

Thanks! And to pay you back for your advice... I will start working on our Halloween post.

We actually don't use a real highchair. I got a booster seat at one of my baby showers and it's AWESOME! It's a Fisher Price-Healthy Care Delux Booster Seat. It's plastic and you can have sit it on the counter, table or we put it on one of our chairs and it has straps to strap around the back and underneath to keep it secure. It has a tray and it folds up for traveling. It's nice because it doesn't take up space like a highchair would and you can take it anywhere (ward dinners, dinner at friend's, etc.). Plus, it's really easy to clean. I totally reccomend it and it's only like $25 or something like that...you can get it at Walmart or Target. Here is a link to it: http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=10727393

As for the car seat. We got the Graco- Nautilus 3-in-1 Multi-Use Car Seat and holds from 20-100 pounds and converts from a forward facing car seat, to a booster seat to a backless booster. I wanted one that would last. It's kinda heavy, but most of them are because of safety reasons, but it's got cubbies on the arm rest that you can use to carry the seat or even the straps in the back work too. (Chris does that) It's pretty comfy. We got it at Walmart and it was around $145. Kinda pricey, but now we won't have to buy a 3rd carseat for Parker!!

Good Luck!

I think it depends on your needs. I really like my high chair (got it on craiglist so not sure what it is) pic of it here http://alligatorfood.blogspot.com/2009/03/birthday-party.html
I like it because it's tall, which doesn't really matter now but I think I will like it for baby #2 bc than carter can't steal from baby 2 (like he does at our friends house who has a short one on a chair). But I also want to get the same chair that was mentioned by Lindsay for a booster for Carter and than use it for baby2 when i need it at grandma's etc. So I guess if you do not plan on needing both a booster and a highchair at the same time in your house (aka baby2 is looong way off) I would just get a small chair. Oh but Carter Loves that he has a cupholder so I think that is a plus! And you will want something that she cannot get out of so you can keep her safe when you are opening the oven and things

Same goes with the Carseat. I will buy C a new booster carseat and than Baby2 will use C's regular Carseat when that comes. But I got a good deal on C's seat so that's why I got it. Good luck!

I have an adjustable highchair for Raleigh that I don't like... we are actually going out tonight to get a booster that we can put on a regular chair. I think clean-a-bility is most important for me, and high chairs are a pain to clean. And we also have the Graco Nautilus 3-in-1 and we loooove it!! The only con I think is that it is forward facing only, and babies need to be at least 1 to face forward. I've heard that Costco carseats are great also, and pretty cheap for the in-between baby and toddler age. Good luck!!

Would the Nautilus be easy to put into a car and take out? We use IGo car sharing and our friends take us to church so is this a chair that would be easy to install multiple times?

Yeah the Nautilus is pretty easy to install. Here in Florida we don't have our own car but we share with the other family and we have been taking it in and out and its really not that bad. The seatbelt just goes right through the back.

I totally agree with the comment about the booster seat over the high chair. I had a high chair for Brennan and while it worked just fine, it was HUGE and it got so dirty
The booster seat on the other hand (which I used exclusively with Anna) was small, portable and easy to clean. Just get a splat mat or something under your chair if you have a nice rug (we don't, so I didn't even need that). The booster seat will last for years, so get the best quality one you can get. You don't want the seat to wear out before your kid(s) outgrow it.

Yes, the booster seat thing is the best. I also like the Fisher Price Healthy care one. It folds up so compactly, it's easy to take anywhere. PLUS all the parts can fit in the dishwasher for a good cleaning. LOVE it. Best investment ever. We also have a simple IKEA high chair, because I thought we might need all of our dining chairs at come point with guests, but we honestly never use it. Just the booster.
